1. AMAZONIA

OUR FIGHT AGAINST DEFORESTATION

For its production, Piola sources wild rubber directly from the heart of the Peruvian Amazonian forest. It is in the Madre de Dios region that the «shiringueros», the rubber tree bleeders, collect the latex by taking the sap from the tree trunks. These producers have a right of exploitation, granted by the State which allows them to protect their environment and part of their source of income. By buying rubber at 5 times the local market price, we actively contribute in the development of their know-how, quality of life and work, whilst limiting deforestation.

2. SOCIAL PROJECT

YOUR SHOES, YOUR STYLE, WHAT’S NEXT?

In addition to paying the rubber 5 times the local market price, Piola also pays the shiringueros 2€ for each pair sold. These funds significantly improve the quality of life and work of our producers. We renovate and build latex production and processing workshops, build footbridges to facilitate access to rubber trees, organize rubber tree identification days located in remote areas, connect their houses to clear water and electricity (using solar panels). There are many projects and it’s thanks to you that we can make them happen.

3. KNOW-HOW

A UNIQUE QUALITY

Portugal has been a key country in shoe manufacturing since the 1960s. The know-how, often passed down from generation to generation, is incomparable. Piola has therefore associated with quality factories in Portugal known for their high-end production. We use European leathers - all sourced in Italy and Portugal - meeting REACH standards that are the highest in the world. The wild rubber used for our soles comes directly from the heart of the Peruvian Amazonian forest, and is combined with recycled rubber.
